Our core beliefs and goals

At Better Green Academy, our spiritual goals include knowing and understanding Jesus Christ as Savior, encouraging daily devotional awareness, inspiring development in the Holy Spirit, creating a mindset for discipleship, and promoting the gospel. Serving preschool to 5th grades. 

Better Green Academy’s Curriculum Consist of “ABEKA”- A Researched Based Christian Curriculum.  Mathematics, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Science, Art, Music, P.E., and Foreign Language with certified educators. Standardized assessments utilized during the school year. Students will have a business hybrid learning track and/or trade focus learning track for future success. 

Scholars will gain educational success through individualized and innovative teaching practices. 

Scholars with diverse learning challenges will have one on one instructional attention, tutorial style assistance, and tailored grade level curriculum based on (IEP) and 504 accommodations, objectives and goals. Student Support/ RTI (Response to Intervention) process for struggling
learners.

Physically, we aim to establish respect for the body as a temple, instruct critical thinking for bodily care, and foster creativity. Emotionally, we develop lives that follow the Holy Spirit, cultivate conformed scholars, and build positive mindset traits in Christ. Socially, we encourage perseverance, teach courage and honor for success, emphasize God’s views on family, and instill self-respect.

These goals drive everything we do, ensuring a holistic and enriching educational experience for every student.

Founder Coach Torrey Harris Inspiration Behind Better Green Academy, Inc.

Coach Harris is dedicated to closing achievement gaps in the communities he has served and improving literacy levels, drawing on his experience in both public, private Christian, and charter school environments across Georgia.

His commitment to addressing current educational challenges drives his work, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills and support needed to succeed. Coach Harris embodies our mission of empowering learners and strengthening educational outcomes for all.

Coach Harris was born and raised in College Park, Georgia, from a deep-rooted passion for education and spiritual guidance. Our founder, T. Harris, was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Stockbridge, Georgia, at age 8 and began a career in landscaping with his late father at age 12 in year 1997. 

These formative experiences laid the groundwork for a unique educational philosophy.

By January 2004, while in undergraduate school, Coach Harris discovered a passion for teaching as a high school English Language Arts long-term substitute teacher. This journey continued with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Miles College in 2006.

2015-2016 - Mercer University - Course Completions: Instructional Technologies Course, Foundation of Education Course, Adolescent Health & Development Course, Fundamentals of Special Education Course.

Georgia educator full certifications in Middle Grades Social Science obtained from Moreland University. Master of Educational Technology from Moreland University by September 2026.

After 28 consecutive years, Coach Harris retired from landscaping and lawn maintenance services in 2024. "The Pursuit of Better Green" U.S. Copyrighted October 2023, 2024, 2025 books and film script screenplay. 

This blend of spiritual foundation, practical business experience, and a profound commitment to teaching is what makes Better Green Academy truly special.

Guiding principles and mission

Our mission is to provide a learning environment that establishes and promotes "The Pursuit of Better G.R.E.E.N within Christ." This acronym defines our core values:

  • G - God: Centered in the son's name of Jesus Christ.
  • R - Real World Application: Applying social sciences to practical scenarios.
  • E - Ethics: Upholding ethical principles in business and humanities.
  • E - Effort: Leading to perseverance for a creative mindset, aiming for 80% or more success.
  • N - Nitrogen/Needs: Just as nitrogen is vital for plant growth, we believe in providing the necessary "NITROGEN" for scholars to think critically and creatively. We are also deeply aware of meeting the diverse learning "NEEDS" of all our students, including those with learning difficulties.
